Mahindra Holidays has helped empower a rural community in Mahabaleshwar with solar electrification. Here’s how it has positively impacted its members
Mahindra Holiday’s Solar Electrification Project in Birmai, Mahabaleshwar has served as a beacon of progress and empowerment for its local community. The project's primary objective of ensuring access to continuous and affordable power was successfully achieved through the installation of 34 solar streetlights and the distribution of 90 portable solar home lights to 90 households.
The residents of Birmai, predominantly engaged in agriculture and beekeeping, face significant challenges due to their village's remote location. Although the village has electricity, frequent outages—especially during the monsoon season—often leave residents in darkness for extended periods. This lack of reliable lighting poses serious safety and security risks, particularly for women, who find the outdoors unsafe after dark due to the absence of adequate streetlights.
Based on a thorough needs assessment, the project implemented solar infrastructure across the village, benefitting both individual households and public spaces.
Here’s how the electrification has empowered the members of this local community.
Beyond enhancing safety and security, the project also addresses environmental sustainability and promotes the adoption of clean energy sources. By providing access to solar energy, the project reduces the community's reliance on traditional sources of electricity, contributing to a greener future.
