Celebrating World Music Day

We sang, we laughed and played instruments to our hearts content! 4000+ of our colleagues also joined virtually across Group locations for a concert! When it comes to a jamming session, this is how Mahindraites do it!

Well, it did not rain when they were singing. But for sure, it did an hour later.

A heavy downpour that lasted for about 30 minutes and brought the city traffic to a standstill…

But nobody complained. And why would they, especially after four months of torrid summer? That aside, it is nice to have rain on World Music Day [which happens on June 21 every year]… It is like a perfect conclusion of the day by paying tribute to musician extraordinaire Mian Tansen, who lived in the reign of Emperor Akbar. The legend is that Tansen and his daughter sang the Megh Malhar Raag with such intensity that it began to rain... So, World Music Day ended on a high note in Mumbai, with rains honouring the maestros of the past and the present.

Back to the present, Mahindraiites celebrated World Music Day with great enthusiasm. Those who could sing, sang their hearts out…. those who could play musical instruments, played to their heart’s content. And, because this was conducted online, colleagues from other businesses and distant work locations could participate. This virtual concert was attended by nearly 4500 colleagues across business locations.

Later in the evening, music lovers assembled on the sixth-floor pantry at Mahindra Towers for a wonderful jamming session. Deal-makers Bhavyam Vashist and Harkrishan Sadana [from Partnerships & Alliances] – on guitar and Cajon box respectively – kept time with many songs sung by our colleagues from Group HR, Group BrandComms, and CX departments.

The day could not have been more perfect: that overcast evening, as luck would have it, the canteen served hot samosas as a tea-time snack. The day ended with a lot of good songs, great conversation among friends, samosas and tea – with a drizzle beginning to break on the window panes.

And a few minutes later, it rained.
