Mahindra Logistics: Leading the way in net-zero warehousing

Mahindra Logistics, the country’s largest integrated logistics solutions provider, continues to set the benchmark for environmentally conscious warehousing. With a total of 3.3 million sq. ft. of carbon-neutral warehousing space spread across India, the company boasts an impressive roster of accomplishments.

The commitment to sustainability is evident through the establishment of over five green facilities, certified by LEED/IGBC. These green warehouses are strategically located in Bhiwandi, Luhari, Pune, Nashik, Hyderabad, and Chennai, reflecting Mahindra Logistics' nationwide dedication to sustainable logistics.

Luhari

In 2021, LOGOS and Mahindra Logistics entered into India’s largest lease with a single warehouse estate located off NH8 in Delhi-NCR region. LOGOS Luhari Logistics Estate is a 125-acres state-of-the-art warehousing park with industry-leading sustainability features including at least 10 acres of Miyawaki forest plantation, EV charging infrastructure, and IGBC-Platinum certified buildings.

Luhari proudly hosts a 500 KW rooftop solar panel installation. This setup not only provides more than two-thirds of Mahindra Logistics' electricity requirements, but it will also save approximately 12,000 tonnes of CO2 over its lifetime. The equivalent of a 240-acre forest's carbon absorption.

The facilities are designed in line with MLL’s sustainability standards, renewable energy, and waste management requirements including liquid discharge management as well as state-of-the-art automation.

Rampraveen Swaminathan, Managing Director and CEO, Mahindra Logistics Limited, says, “Our commitment to becoming carbon neutral by 2040 is an endeavour to lead the logistics industry by example. Offering large format, multi-client, carbon neutral, state-of-the-art warehousing infrastructure is an effort towards green logistics. At Mahindra Logistics, we continue to provide integrated, customised solutions through a sustainable ecosystem and thank our partners – LOGOS for supporting us in our journey towards carbon neutrality.”

Hyderabad

Mahindra Logistics has further exemplified its dedication through the establishment of a state-of-the-art net-zero multi-client warehouse in Hyderabad. Running entirely on 100% solar and battery-stored energy, this warehouse operates as an "energy-positive" space, returning excess energy to the grid. With the capacity to charge electric cargo vehicles and personal EVs, it is truly a net-zero facility. The company's goal of achieving 1 MWp of solar power generation capacity by FY’23 reflects their steadfast commitment to green energy.

Green Hive

A focal point of the company's efforts is the "Green Hive" sustainability room within their warehouses. This innovative space houses a dashboard that tracks and monitors all sustainability initiatives, aiming to achieve a significant reduction of up to 200 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions in each green warehouse annually.

Notably, Mahindra Logistics was an early entrant in the EV cargo space, setting a precedent for innovation. With fully electric last-mile stations in Nashik and Kolkata, the company manages over 100 EVs to cater to the grocery needs of more than 2,500 households daily.

Green Hour

In line with their vision to become carbon neutral by 2040, Mahindra Logistics observes the #GreenHour each month. On the last Saturday of every month, from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm, the company turns off all non-essential lights, both at their workplaces and homes, contributing to energy conservation.

Plastic collection drive

MLL’s commitment to the environment was also visible during July's World Environment Month, as they conducted a plastic collection drive in 38 locations across 12 states. The collective efforts of 878 dedicated volunteers resulted in the collection of an astounding 940 kilogrammes of plastic debris, showcasing Mahindra Logistics' dedication to a cleaner, greener planet.

Mahindra Logistics stands as a shining example of sustainable warehousing, with a resolute dedication to reducing their carbon footprint while inspiring positive change across industries.
