Over the decades, the Mahindra Group’s Hariyali initiative has celebrated and championed the spirit of World Environment Day, which is celebrated on June 5 each year by planting saplings. This contribution has proved invaluable in terms of adding to the green cover, protecting biodiversity and mitigating ecological imbalance.
While the pandemic has posed challenges, Mahindra’s commitment is unwavering, and the Group has pledged to plant one million trees this year as well. Given the external circumstances, the Group has partnered with Grow Trees, an NGO which facilitates the plantation of a sapling on behalf of an individual or corporate. At a nominal cost, one can get a tree planted in their name or honour a loved one. A sapling is planted in its natural habitat, such as a sanctuary or forest reserve. The sapling is geo-tagged and can be tracked by its unique ID, which is provided along with the e-certificate.
Thus, Mahindra employees can pledge to plant a sapling, either virtually through Grow Trees or in person in their own gardens, terraces or the community. The time spent on these activities (both virtual and in person) can be reported on the MySeva platform on the ‘Spirit of Service’ portal. This will be part of Mahindra’s 75th Year pledge to contribute 750,000 person-hours to community service.
