Meet Mansi Giri, Assistant Manager- Production at the XUV Body shop at the Nashik plant 1 tells us what motivates her to volunteer and how she keeps this interest alive.
How did you develop this interest?
Yes. My Journey as an NGO volunteer started when I saw a street dog with swollen leg during my school days. That’s when I started making home remedies for animals and treating stray animals. Later I joined Pune-based Echo Animal Foundation that helps rescuing animals in need and educates the community.
I also began volunteering with Nashik Ploggers – every weekend we would go on plogging drive with a group of 30 members at any river side, hillside or tourist location and collect plastic, waste and other debris to combat pollution and create a clean environment. We would also educate / speak to the community on the need to keep our streets and rivers clean.
How have you kept this interest alive?
Of course, with work it gets difficult. I do continue volunteering with Echo Animal Foundation and Nashik Ploggers and have volunteer with Nari Harsh Foundation that educates schoolgirls on basic hygiene, sanitation, health, cancer awareness and self-defence.
Every weekend morning I conduct 1 plogging drive and visit the animal shelter.
How do you inspire others to join you?
There are many things one can do in their spare time to help the society. One way is by volunteering with local charities or organisations. This can involve working at a food bank, homeless shelter, animal shelter, or other similar places. You can even organise your own tree-planting event or just plant some trees in your yard!
If you want to make a difference in your community, try picking up litter. Trash is a big problem in many regions, and it’s important to keep your community clean and safe. You can also donate blood to help save lives or mentor young people to share your skills and knowledge with them.
Lastly, you can reduce waste by using reusable bags, water bottles, and containers, composting food waste and recycling whenever possible. All these small changes can add up to make a big difference in the world!
So, find something you're passionate about and take action to make a positive impact!
To date Mansi has organised…
Self-defence and health education camp in 11 schools in Nashik
Conducted cancer awareness camp in Manavta Center and helped provide free body tests for women.
