Mahindra's eSUVs make a thunderous debut, as thousands queue up to claim their ride
It's a rite of passage for the Indian automotive industry as Mahindra's Electric Origin SUVs break into the scene with a tidal wave of new bookings on day-one.
XEV 9e and BE 6 -- the new Mahindra eSUVs, lavishly praised by auto lovers as futuristic wheels that may ferry the domestic automotive industry to an era of electric vehicles (EVs) -- have secured 30179 bookings on the first day of opening.
This is noteworthy considering that the total electric passenger vehicle sales in India was about 1 Lakh units for the calendar year 2024.
The eSUVs have collectively logged a booking value of Rs 8472 crore (at ex-showroom prices) on February 14, when the company started accepting orders.
The split between the XEV 9e and BE 6 is 56% and 44%, respectively. The top-end Pack Three, featuring a 79 kWh battery, accounted for 73% of the total bookings across both brands. Deliveries will begin in latter part of March 2025.
This response indicates strong customer enthusiasm for Mahindra’s next-generation electric SUVs and reflects the growing demand for premium EVs in India.
