Find out how the Mahindra Logistics Sustainability team is collaborating with the industry-wide cross sector engagement platform that brings together logistic solutions providers, OEMs, transporters, RE solutions providers and charging operators to create a sustainable logistics ecosystem
Can you share details about the JOULE initiative and what is Mahindra Logistics role in the initiative?
Mahindra Logistics is a signatory to The Climate Pledge (TCP) that kicked off JOULE (Joint Operations Unifying Last Mile Electrification) an initiative led by Amazon and the strategic consultant Deloitte to minimise transport emissions in India. The initiative provides a unique industry-wide cross sector engagement platform with active participation from Logistic Solutions Providers (LSPs), OEMs, transporters, renewable energy (RE) solutions providers and charging operators.
JOULE aims to build region-based 100% green charging network for high-intensity transport routes. In the phase 1, the project has identified 7 lanes in Bengaluru wherein Mahindra Logistics as DSO (demand side organisation) has joined hands with Kazam as charging power operator; GreenKo as carbon free energy solutions provider; Amazon as demand Aggregator and other corporate entities.
As its first milestone Mahindra Logistics has launched 100% RE powered EV charging station in Doddakallasandra in Bengaluru in September 2024 to use RE powered charging infrastructure for its EV fleet. Six more green charging stations to follow in the hi-tech city.
By 2030, this network is expected to support about 5500 EVs saving 11.2 Mn liters of fuel and abating an estimated 25,700 tCO2 contributing to improved air quality and wellbeing of the city.
What is the MLL financial obligations to this, and how will it be disbursed?
As a signatory to the Climate Pledge (TCP), MLL is invested in the project as strategic collaborator providing minimum usage guarantee by deploying EV fleet at RE powered charging stations across 7 identified routes in Bengaluru. No direct financial obligations.
As a signatory what to this initiative, how does this align with your larger sustainability goal?
