Building a Sustainable World

The theme for this year’s World Economic Forum (WEF) is centred around ‘Stakeholders for a Cohesive and Sustainable World’. In a blog on the WEF website, Anirban Ghosh, Chief Sustainability Officer, Mahindra Group said that the Mahindra Group is recognized as a pioneer in adopting and encouraging sustainable living. And, this consciousness of sustainable living has seeped into our country.

According to the 2019 survey by the Mahindra Group, these were the key findings:

  • 4 out of 5 Indians are aware of the impact their actions have on the environment
  • 83% expressed interest in making lifestyle changes
  • 70% of the respondents were also aware about water conservation being the need of the hour

Mr. Ghosh pointed out that consumer attitudes or awareness are no longer issues, but the challenge lies in accessing alternatives that are sustainable and affordable. As a result, ‘Alternativism’ is the key solution to addressing the challenge of climate change. He encourages readers to practise Alternativism in their own way like turning off taps, switching off lights when natural light is available and recycling old clothes.
