Artsy in Awadh

Mahindra Sanatkada - the five-day, cultural festival combining music, arts and crafts is set to kick off on January 31 in Lucknow. The festival, to be held at the historical Qaiser Bagh Baradari, attracts thousands of patrons from across the country.

In its 11th year, Mahindra Sanatkada is dedicated to the late Indira Mahindra, who gave her unparalleled support to Indian art and culture. The main aim of the festival is to bring together people from all walks of life, and to celebrate the rich culture of the country.

Key attractions include evenings filled with mellifluous music, enthralling dance performances by contemporary and classical artists from across the country. The gastronome can also have their fill of home-cooked, authentic Awadhi cuisine.

Craft displays by artisans are a highlight of the festival. Patrons, who want to immerse themselves in the culture of the old city, can also indulge in heritage walks.

The Mahindra Sanatkada Lucknow festival uses oral, visual and experimental storytelling techniques to celebrate the inclusive and unique traditions of Lucknow. This year’s theme for the festival is ‘Awadh ke Qasbati Rang’ which will reflect in the performances, panel discussions and merchandise.

Organized as a fair around master craftsmen, the festival provides an equal opportunity to appreciate the charm of the Nawabi culture.
