'Scorpio is our Sholay'

Ask him any day, and Hemant Sikka would pick Dharmendra over Amitabh Bachchan every time. “At one point, we had even considered Dharmendra as the brand personality of Mahindra – and it aligned well with our tractor portfolio… His ‘son of the soil’ image would work very well for us,” Mr. Sikka tells Dr Anish Shah at the recently concluded LeaderSpeak Session.

The hour-long conversation – which was peppered with a few challenging business-related questions, many that elicited chuckles and laughter, as well as some candid confessions – revealed Mr Sikka’s fondness for badminton and the Aamir Khan starrer Dil Chahta Hai. The wisecrack – or shall we say, ‘remark’ - that rang well around the hall was when Mr Sikka drew parallels between Mahindra’s iconic SUV brand Scorpio and Bollywood’s evergreen film Sholay… For sure, Scorpio did to SUVs what Sholay did to Bollywood Movies!

Well, Mr Sikka’s quip gave us a headline for this copy too!
