The partnership between Amazon India and Mahindra Electric is a welcome step which reaffirms India’s significant progress in the e-mobility industry and highlights the role of auto makers and e-commerce companies to achieve our environmental sustainability goals. We are confident that the government’s efforts to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles in the country, and steps taken towards setting up of infrastructure backed by policy measures will help more companies adopt e-mobility. India’s dynamic public-and private-sector leadership, entrepreneurial culture, ability to build world-class infrastructure, and a unique confluence of IT and manufacturing skills will enable us to take global leadership position in advanced mobility solutions.”
“The partnership with Mahindra Electric is a testament of our commitment to sustainability”, Akhil Saxena, VP, Customer Fulfilment Operations (APC, MENA & Latam), Amazon, said. He added, “The expansion of our electric vehicle fleet to 10,000 vehicles of 2025 is an integral milestone in our journey to become a sustainability leader in the industry.”
Amazon has already deployed Mahindra Electric’s Treo Zor three-wheelers for delivery service in Bengaluru, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Indore and Lucknow. The partnership with Amazon, according to Mahesh Babu, MD & CEO, Mahindra Electric, will redefine India’s logistics and last-mile delivery needs and also help both companies achieve sustainability goals.
Amazon is committed to becoming net carbon zero across its businesses by 2040. Amazon has pledged to decarbonize quicker and, play a critical role in stimulating investment in the development of low-carbon products and services necessary to meet the pledge. Towards this end, Amazon India announced that its delivery fleet would include 10,000 electric vehicles (EVs) by 2025, in addition to their global commitment of 100,000 EVs by 2030.
The partnership is also expected to give a big boost to the Indian EV industry. The Government of India (GoI) has been actively pushing and facilitating the development of EV industry in India. The inclusion of the electric vehicles in Amazon India’s fleet complements the GOI’s focus on electric mobility. The indigenously manufactured Treo Zor three-wheelers are a proud testament to GoI’s AtmaNirbhar Bharat initiative.
